Good morning! Today’s rune is Hagalaz. Natural disaster: hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, forest fires, volcanic eruption, tsunamis, flooding. Everyone at some point has been affected by a natural disaster, and because of that, we know just how devastating and earth shattering they can be. But with catastrophe comes transformation. We come together as a community and begin to rebuild; we grow as people, as survivors.
HAGALAZ
Meaning: “Hail” or “Hailstorm”
Pronunciation: “hag-all-az”
Hagalaz is a rune of the uncontrollable forces of nature, of the inevitable, of fate. But with great disaster and crisis comes transformation, be that physical transformation of rebuilding or more of a spiritual transformation regarding a deeper understanding of self and respect for the natural world. In the spiritual sense it can be used to promote radical change or even banishment within ourselves, clearing out the “baggage” or “garbage” that we hold on to and allowing ourselves to be reborn in a more pure form.
