Aromantic awareness week has officially started! Aromanticism is a romantic orientation, which describes people whose experience of romance is disconnected from normative societal expectations, often due to experiencing little to no romantic attraction, or sometimes feeling repulsed by romance or being uninterested in romantic relationships. This week is all about bringing awareness and acceptance to the issues Aromantic people face every day and to celebrate them. This started in the year 2014 to bring that awareness they are seeking for the community. People who are aromantic may sometimes feel: they don’t experience feelings of romantic attraction, they don’t need romantic relationships to feel complete or fulfilled, they don’t experience being ‘in love’ with someone else, or they have a hard time relating to romantic stories. Being Aromantic looks different for everyone. There’s no one way to be Aro.
Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week was first recognised in November 2014, later moving to late February in 2015. The week is uses to spread awareness and the acceptance of aromantic identities across the world.
