Good day, all you wonderful Heathens!
Today, December 10, marks International Human Rights Day. It was on this day in 1948, the United Nations adopted one of the most crucial documents in modern life – the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
While it is a non-binding document, it lays out what every nation, state, country should seek to employ within it’s borders; to offer every human a basic foundation of rights that allows us to flourish.
Nearing the end of 2023, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of this declaration. As we’ve all witnessed events unfold over the course of this year – as well as previous couple of years – we can all recognize just how crucial and needed this declaration is.
As Heathens, our ability to practice and hold faith in the way we do; how many of our family are able to choose how they express themselves; to gather together and hold Frith. All of these and so, so much more is a strong attestation to the power of this declaration.
We at Awaken the North hold this declaration in high esteem, and every action and word is funneled through the lens of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. No race, color, creed, gender, sex, or orientation is ever denied Frith, and any member (including those in the Council) that denies or breaks Frith are swiftly banished.
This is how we awaken and accept our community.
