INGUZ
by Eelje Oldfield, Acting Chancellor of Religious Studies
Good morning! Today’s rune is Inguz. Let us sow seeds today that will bring us abundance and growth at harvest. Do the hard work now, planting and planning, so you can reap the future rewards.
“The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success.” – Paramahansa Yogananda
INGUZ
Meaning: “Seed” or “The God, Ing”
Pronunciation: “Ing-guz”
The rune Inguz is first and foremost a rune representing male sexuality and fertility, as can be seen with it’s connection to “The God, Ing” or Freyr. Inguz represents the process of turning a “seed” (or a goal or plan), with time and growth, into a “harvest” or new creation. Planting the seeds now to reap the later reward or sacrificing the you of now for the you of tomorrow… with the added bonus of gaining the experiences you’ve collected along the way. It often reminds me of the end of the harvest season; once the current harvest dies, the nutrients and energy are absorbed back into the earth to help propagate the next year’s harvest.
Keywords: Process, space, resting, gestation, male sexuality, impotence, agriculture, internal growth, frivolity, immaturity
