Thursday Thor’s Day by Goði Flak, AtN Scribe
Happy Thor’s Day! Cunning, smart, and wily… are these words you’d associate with the god known for “solving” his problems with a blunt object? Well, if not, maybe you should!
Thor is commonly known for bashing Jötnar, getting into fights, and generally trying to rectify disagreements with the mentality of fighting first and asking questions later (if ever). Would it surprise you that one of his most popular attestations is a story that begins with him relying on deception and cunning instead? Mind you, it’s not exactly his idea of a solution, but that doesn’t change the fact that he eventually consents to it. Thor agrees to dress up as the goddess of love and war herself, Freyja. He, along with (of course) the Trickster, infiltrates the abode of Þrymr under the guise of “Freyja” marrying him. Mjölnir is eventually retrieved and placed on the lap of the “bride” to be to hallow the union. At this point, Thor does resort to his more… stereotypical habit of bashing things. Though this story is ultimately about Thor, it does emphasize the desirability of the lovely Freyja.
So, with all that in mind, let’s see ‘em, folks! Today’s emblem is that of our Chair of Public Affairs, Skogul! Hers is a depiction of Freyja and her cats! Fitting for a person who self-identifies as a “cat lady.” As always, be sure to share a pic of whatever hammer, emblem, or trinket you sport! Lastly, we would love to hear what comes to mind when you are thinking of Thor!
