So You Want To Be The Chancellor of Military Services
According to our Bylaws:
Chancellor of Military Services (CoMS) is a member of the Council and has one vote.
The CoMS, and their designees, develops and maintains a program that supports our active duty, retired, and seperated Military members, their spouses, and dependants. The CoMS provides resources to support the members of Awaken the North in military specific needs, such as religious services, religious accommodations, and coordinates with base leadership as needed. The CoMS also assists in the creation, continued support, and development of the Military Emissary Program. The CoMS is active in public facing venues, such as social media, and is open to the membership. The CoMS is the primary contact for active-duty military personnel.
As CoMS, your job is to direct AtN’s representation, support, and honoring of active-duty, veterans, reserve, seperated and national guard members.
Position Specific Duties:
You will foster a strong sense of community among members with military backgrounds.
As Chancellor of Military Services, you will foster a strong sense of community among members with military backgrounds. Furthermore, you will keep the Council of Awaken the North informed of any significant changes or developments within the military community that may impact the organization or its members. This may include legislative changes, policy updates, or emerging trends in military culture. By providing timely updates and insights, you will ensure that the Council is well-equipped to address the needs of military members and support their integration into the Heathen community.
By fulfilling these duties, you will contribute to a supportive and inclusive environment for members with military backgrounds, ensuring that their unique experiences are valued and honored within the Awaken the North community.
You will assist in building, developing, and directing the Military Emissary Program (DRGL).
As Chancellor of Military Services, you and your team will play a crucial role in building and nurturing a supportive community for current and former military members, their spouses, and dependents within Awaken the North. One key aspect of this role is collaborating with the Chair of the DRGL Program to establish and maintain the DRGL Program. This program will leverage the expertise of military veterans within the y team to connect with military personnel and their families, offering support and guidance as they explore Heathenry.
The DRGLs will serve as localized resources, providing information and assistance to military members seeking a Universal/inclusive Norse Pagan community. They may work directly the Base Chaplains at specific military bases to accommodate the unique needs of service members and their families. DRGLs are certified individuals who volunteer to assist commanders and chaplains in supporting the religious needs of service members that cannot be met by traditional military chaplaincy. By fostering connections between military personnel and the Heathen community, you will contribute to the growth and well-being of our organization.
You will build, develop, and maintain relationships with military clergy throughout all the services/branches/auxiliaries.
As Chancellor of Military Services, you will collaborate with military chaplains from various branches and religious beliefs, both domestic and foreign, to effectively support Awaken the North members serving in the armed forces. Chaplains play a vital role in the military, providing spiritual guidance and counseling to Christian service members and their families. It is essential that these chaplains are aware of the unique spiritual needs of Norse Pagan service members.
You will work closely with Distinctive Religious Group Leaders (DRGLs), certified individuals who volunteer to support the religious needs of service members that may not be fully addressed by traditional military chaplaincy. By fostering strong relationships with chaplains and DRGLs, you will ensure that our members receive the spiritual support they need, regardless of their location or branch of service. Cultivating positive working relationships with Christian chaplains on military bases is essential for ensuring that Norse Heathens and other earth-based practitioners receive the respect and support they deserve. By fostering open communication and mutual understanding, we can work together to create a more inclusive and tolerant environment for all service members.

Each theme will require a creative and informative response. This could be a concise TikTok-style video that captures attention and delivers key information, a longer-form YouTube video that delves deeper into the topic, a well-written article that provides a comprehensive analysis, or a series of engaging social media posts that spark discussion and share valuable insights.
Your contributions to these projects will significantly impact our organization’s online presence. You will attend each of the Council meetings.
Balancing your responsibilities as a chancellor with the ever-changing schedules of your fellow Council members is an important aspect of your role. While the Council strives to find a date and time that accommodates everyone, there will inevitably be occasions when conflicts arise.
To ensure seamless participation and maintain the flow of information within the Council, we leverage the power of technology. Monthly meetings are conducted via voice and video chat on Discord, offering a flexible and accessible platform for collaboration. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may prevent you from attending a specific meeting.
In such instances, it’s critical to have a designated backup plan in place. Your Chair plays a vital role in this scenario, acting as your representative and ensuring your voice is heard during the meeting. To facilitate a smooth and informative handover, please provide your Chair with a copy of your completed Council Pre-Meeting Report before the scheduled meeting. This report, which you submit online, is both sent to you and automatically gets forwarded to the Scribe upon completion. Should you or your Chair require an additional copy for reference, you can easily request it by sending an email to scribe@awakenthenorth.org.
By fostering open communication and establishing a reliable backup system, we can ensure that the Council meetings remain productive and informative, regardless of occasional scheduling conflicts.
You will submit a quarterly update to the Editor-in-Chief of Odin's Auga, Awaken the North's quarterly newsletter.
To ensure the membership stays informed about the exciting initiatives undertaken by the Member Affairs department, you’ll be contributing at least one piece to the organization’s quarterly newsletter. This submission could take the form of a concise report that outlines the department’s recent activities and accomplishments.
While specifics regarding individual members are confidential, you can offer insightful summaries about trends, patterns, or overall program performance. This transparency keeps the membership apprised of the department’s ongoing work and allows them to see how their Chancellor is directly impacting their experience.
Furthermore, the newsletter serves as a valuable resource for members seeking assistance. Your report can include information on how to reach you, allowing members to establish a clear point of contact for any questions or concerns they might have.
Beyond the required report, you’re highly encouraged to delve deeper into your creativity and contribute additional pieces to the newsletter. This could include anything from a captivating short story to a thought-provoking poem, as long as it adheres to the thematic focus of the newsletter and aligns with the core values of Awaken the North and Heathenry.
To submit your contributions for the newsletter, simply send them via email to editor@awakenthenorth.org. Weave your passion and expertise into your submissions, and help to make the newsletter a vibrant platform for connecting with the membership.
