So You Want To Be The Chancellor of Religious Services
According to our Bylaws:
The Chancellor of Religious Services (CoRS) is the religious director of Awaken the North. The CoRS, and their designees, develops and maintains the Gothar Training Program (GTP), administers the ordination process, and leads the organization in all spiritual needs of Awaken the North. The CoRS, and their designees, are the primary contact for the membership in religious and/or spiritual concerns. The CoRS is active in public facing venues, such as social media, and is open to the membership.
As CoRS, your job is to direct AtN’s representation, support, and religious education in spiritual matters.
Position Specific Duties:
You are the spiritual leader of Awaken the North
As the Chancellor of Religious Studies for Awaken the North, a 501(c)(3) Religious Organization, you will be a cornerstone of our spiritual community. You will be responsible for cultivating a deep understanding and appreciation of our religion and spirituality. This involves staying current with the latest scholarly research, historical findings, and evolving interpretations of our faith. You will need to discern between verified knowledge and personal revelations, critically evaluating UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis) and identifying reliable sources to support claims. Furthermore, you will play a vital role in guiding our members and guests on their spiritual journeys. This includes recommending appropriate texts, suggesting insightful studies, and facilitating discussions that foster intellectual and spiritual growth. By providing a solid foundation of knowledge and a supportive learning environment, you will empower individuals to explore the depths of our religion and connect with its profound wisdom.
You will build, develop, and direct the Goðar Training Program
The Chancellor of Religious Services is a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual and spiritual growth of Awaken the North’s membership. By crafting and implementing robust educational programs, the Chancellor ensures that our community has access to the knowledge and tools needed to deepen their understanding of Norse Paganism. This commitment to education is fundamental to our organization’s success, as it directly addresses the core reasons people join: community and knowledge. While emissaries foster a strong sense of belonging, the Chancellor cultivates a vibrant learning environment.
The Goðar Training Program (GTP) is a prime example of this commitment. By providing rigorous training to aspiring Goðar, we not only elevate the quality of our leadership but also contribute to the broader Norse Pagan community. Well-trained and knowledgeable Goðar are essential for preserving and promoting our traditions. They serve as beacons of wisdom, guiding others on their spiritual journeys and inspiring them to embrace the rich heritage of our ancestors. Through their dedication to education and their commitment to service, Goðar help to solidify Awaken the North’s position as a leading force in the modern Pagan movement.
Moreover, the Chancellor plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of lifelong learning. By organizing workshops, seminars, and study groups, the Chancellor encourages members to explore various aspects of Norse Paganism, from mythology and history to ritual practice and personal spirituality. These educational opportunities not only deepen individual understanding but also strengthen the bonds within our community. As members share their knowledge and insights, they create a collective wisdom that enriches the lives of all.
You will build and maintain the Certificate Training Courses to further our knowledge of the Lore and old ways
Awaken the North provides a comprehensive educational framework for those seeking to deepen their understanding of Norse Paganism. Our Certificate Training Courses are designed to meet the needs of individuals who desire a structured learning experience without the commitment of the Goðar Training Program. These courses offer a deep dive into various aspects of our faith, including mythology, history, ritual practice, personal spirituality, and more. By engaging with our curriculum, learners can expand their knowledge, refine their skills, and connect with like-minded individuals. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a curious newcomer, our Certificate Training Courses offer a valuable opportunity to explore the rich tapestry of Norse Paganism and enhance your spiritual journey. It is your duty to keep these courses relevant and up-to-date.

You will host an online AtN specific voice chat on a regular monthly basis on a social media platform open to the public.
As a chancellor of Awaken the North, you’ll be hosting a monthly Q&A session on a public platform like Discord, Facebook Live, or another online venue. These sessions are designed to provide a direct line of communication with the public, allowing you to share insights into your role, the specific projects you’re currently working on, and the overall goals of the organization as a whole.

These video appearances will allow you to reach a wider audience and share your insights in a more engaging and visually appealing format. By participating in these videos, you’ll be able to connect with the public on a more personal level, building relationships and fostering a sense of community.
As a chancellor, you will be the driving force behind the organization’s innovative projects, spearheading initiatives that engage the public and promote Heathenry. Your creative vision will be crucial in developing compelling video projects that resonate with a wide audience. You will be required to participate in ongoing video blog projects by making at least one video per theme as it sets focus of the organization.
To further our organization’s mission and foster the growth and knowledge of our members, we will be implementing a thematic approach to various topics. As a Chancellor, your active participation in these thematic projects is not only mandatory but also essential. One of your responsibilities is to create these ideas.
Each theme will require a creative and informative response. This could be a concise TikTok-style video that captures attention and delivers key information, a longer-form YouTube video that delves deeper into the topic, a well-written article that provides a comprehensive analysis, or a series of engaging social media posts that spark discussion and share valuable insights.
Your contributions to these projects will significantly impact our organization’s online presence. By sharing your knowledge and passion for Heathenry through these various platforms, you’ll help to increase our visibility, attract new members, and strengthen our community. Additionally, the form will help you anticipate potential questions from other Council members, allowing you to prepare thoughtful and insightful responses. This proactive approach will contribute to a more productive and efficient Council meeting.
You will attend each of the Council meetings.
Balancing your responsibilities as a chancellor with the ever-changing schedules of your fellow Council members is an important aspect of your role. While the Council strives to find a date and time that accommodates everyone, there will inevitably be occasions when conflicts arise.
To ensure seamless participation and maintain the flow of information within the Council, we leverage the power of technology. Monthly meetings are conducted via voice and video chat on Discord, offering a flexible and accessible platform for collaboration. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may prevent you from attending a specific meeting.
In such instances, it’s critical to have a designated backup plan in place. Your Chair plays a vital role in this scenario, acting as your representative and ensuring your voice is heard during the meeting. To facilitate a smooth and informative handover, please provide your Chair with a copy of your completed Council Pre-Meeting Report before the scheduled meeting. This report, which you submit online, is both sent to you and automatically gets forwarded to the Scribe upon completion. Should you or your Chair require an additional copy for reference, you can easily request it by sending an email to scribe@awakenthenorth.org.
By fostering open communication and establishing a reliable backup system, we can ensure that the Council meetings remain productive and informative, regardless of occasional scheduling conflicts.
You will submit a quarterly update to the Editor-in-Chief of Odin's Auga, Awaken the North's quarterly newsletter.
To ensure the membership stays informed about the exciting initiatives undertaken by the Religious studies department, you’ll be contributing at least one piece to the organization’s quarterly newsletter. This submission could take the form of a concise report that outlines the department’s recent activities and accomplishments.
While specifics regarding individual members are confidential, you can offer insightful summaries about trends, patterns, or overall program performance of the GTP and Certificates Program. This transparency keeps the membership apprised of the department’s ongoing work and allows them to see how their Chancellor is directly impacting their experience.
Furthermore, the newsletter serves as a valuable resource for members seeking assistance. Your report can include information on how to reach you, allowing members to establish a clear point of contact for any questions or concerns they might have.
Beyond the required report, you’re highly encouraged to delve deeper into your creativity and contribute additional pieces to the newsletter. This could include anything from a captivating short story to a thought-provoking poem, as long as it adheres to the thematic focus of the newsletter and aligns with the core values of Awaken the North and Heathenry.
To submit your contributions for the newsletter, simply send them via email to editor@awakenthenorth.org. Weave your passion and expertise into your submissions, and help to make the newsletter a vibrant platform for connecting with the membership.
