Hello fellow Heathens! It is Tyr’s day yet again. However, our regularly scheduled honoring of Tyr is being usurped…I mean loving replaced with a discussion about Mother’s Night. For many of us, tonight marks the beginning of Yule. On this night we honor our maternal lineage. Specifically, those who we feel (or know) continue to watch over our family – the Disir. Some of us may not wish to wish honor our known and/or blood line of mothers. There are many reasons for this – those reasons are your own. You can still honor your Disir in a general sense – there millions of mothers that contributed to you being here.
Today I will remember my maternal grandmother, Althea Lane. She was a foundation through my life until she moved on to the next stage in 2000. She always supported the things I did, though she would call me on my bullshit when it was needed. I can still hear her telling me “That is not necessary, Michael” when I’m about do something stupid. Of course, I listen about as well now as I did then.
I also honor my mother. She is still here in this realm, but this year has been rough for her. We lost my sister in October. And so, I will make a special offering for her this year.
My wife will also be included in my request for a warm embrace from both her and my mothers. Today is a special alignment of events. Mother’s Night comes on our eldest child’s 25th birthday. His arrival allowed her to join the long line of mothers.
Do you celebrate Mother’s Night today? Is this the beginning of Yule for you?
