It has been a while since we had a Thursday Thor’s Day post, so I thought today would be a perfect time to bring it back! As most folks are aware, Thor is often described as the protector of mankind. As such, he is often depicted doing things that are inherently dangerous. A prime example of this is his part in Ragnarök. Who but the strongest of the gods could hope to take on the World Serpent… a being so large and so unimaginably powerful that it not only encircled the entire world but held back all the oceans.
While some see Jormungandr as evil, along with many other figures in our lore, I don’t see it that way. Jormangandr, along with the other Jötnar, represent chaos or change. They are part of the catalyst needed to keep things moving. The opposite side of the same coin, if you will: Without this constant change and evolution, there would only be stagnation. And stagnation leads to death. So, while some might resent the Jötnar, I am thankful that we have that balance to keep things fresh. Just something to ponder on this Thanksgiving Day!
With that in mind… let’s see ‘em folks! I figured I would make a slight departure from the (old) norm and instead of showing a picture of a hammer I wear; I’d instead show a picture of one that I use. This is the hammer that I use for my home altar. As soon as I saw it on Etsy, I knew that I had to get it, as I feel that it perfectly represents the Thunderer, himself. Let’s see what you wear or use in your daily life!
