Today is Ingwaz!
PRONUNCIATION: eeng-whaz
fertility, male procreative force, channeling energy, completion and safety
THE POWER OF THE RUNE: Ingwaz makes us disciplined and directed toward self-realization. It provides balance, stability, and strength. Whatever is propelling you forward at the moment in a positive way Ingwaz is confirming and acknowledging that the energy behind it is potent and heading for substantial results. This rune can also symbolize completion. An old phase of your life is coming to an end, freeing up the energy for a new experience.
This is springtime energy and the procreation of life on earth. This rune can refer to a general procreative energy being channeled. Maybe a project, journey, or a business endeavor. Whatever is propelling you forward at the moment, this rune is reminding you that the energy behind you is potent and you are heading for substantial results.
Ingwaz is the great seed, the rune of Freyr. Freyr, twin brother to Freya, is a god of the Vanir tribe, appealed to by the ancient Norse for abundant crops and prosperity. Ingwaz historically represents the masculine energy found in the cosmos and is cherished as a great rune of fertility. Statues have been found of Freyr with a great phallus, so it is very easy to make the assumption that Freyr was a fertility god.
To the Norse, we were all products of our family and ancestors, and our descendants were products of us and our lives. This is especially seen in the concept of orlog, a type of fate that is a person’s luck of sorts, but also that of a family. As described previously, the Norns are said to weave a person’s orlog when they are born, and though it’s new to each individual, it is also woven from the threads that have come before us from our ancestors.
This is a fertile, empowering rune. Just like Berkana can be said to represent the feminine and mothers, so can Ingwaz be said to represent the masculine and fathers.
