Public Affairs, what is that? What do they do and why is it important to us all?
Well, those are great questions, I am glad you asked.
The function of a public relations team in any organization aims to influence public policy, build, and maintain strong relationships with their members and other organizations as well as protect the integrity and help highlight all the interests of the organization. Public affairs is defined as efforts made by organizations to track, engage, and organize their external business processes.
Sounds like a lot of business talk.
So, what does it mean to you? Or me?
One thing it means is that you get up-to-date and regular content on all our social media platforms and the website. PR is how we see the organization; I mean how we see AtN.
In the beginning of AtN this division was simply known as public relations.
Who was the first Chancellor of Public Affairs?
Calista has been in this position since mid-2021.
In the early years of AtN it would seem an Ella Caution was the first official public relations director.
But our Calista doesn’t just head the department and prepare our announcements. She is also the editor-in-chief of the quarterly newsletter. If you are a registered member, you should get the quarterly newsletter emailed to you. You can always request it again in discord or on FB when they are released if you do not see it in your email. But even more excitedly you can submit to it. Art, stories, recipes, your connection with a god or goddess, and even studies your conducting. Submissions are accepted year-round at copa@AwakenTheNorth.org
So, I asked Calista why she decide to become a part of this division.
The previous chancellor was stepping down due to their health, and Beast and Galaxy asked me if I would be interested in filling the role, as I had public relations experience. I thought it would be a good idea, as I care deeply for this organization and figured it was something I could.
And done it well she has.
So let’s ask the chancellor herself, What is the purpose of your division?
This particular role started as a way to get Awaken the North back on the map, according to Ella. Spreading the word via social media and the like and keeping the org relevant to current events. That continues today, with the team working to ensure that people both within the organization and outside of it are aware of the great things we’re working on; we also work to make sure that we are seen in the best light possible. This means making sure that we’re behaving in a manner that is always appropriate and in line with our vision.
What are the goals you have for the future of your division?
So far, I’d just like to continue to build the PR team and get more original content out so that more people can learn about us and maybe eventually call us home, as well.
What have you personally done for your division since starting the position?
I have worked to find people to help build said team. I’ve been working on guidelines for posting so that we can streamline the information going out onto the socials.
What changes if any would you like to see made?
I don’t know at the moment; this question always gets me! I guess I’d like to see more interaction when we post things, but I can’t make people interact. I can only make sure the opportunities are out there.
It sounds to me like the Chancellor of Public Affairs has a few projects in the works and is continually trying to improve upon ways for us to reach our members and connect with other groups.
If you would like to submit ideas, content, or submissions to the newsletter you can reach out to Calista via email at copa@AwakenTheNorth.org and you can often find her online too! Keep your eyes out for future Discord Voice Chats with the CoPA too! And if you are a Patreon supporter you will be getting the first views of her newest project, “The Runic Rabbit hole.” These writings and videos will be shared in the monthly rune discussion one month after the Patreons receive them!
Until next time!

Galaxy
