I apologize about missing these two important days in a row. Life got in the way for a few days but we are back on track. Yesterday, June 27th was National HIV Testing Day. Which we do to highlight the importance of getting tested just in case. The routine screening allows for the identification of HIV before it becomes advanced HIV or AIDS, fosters earlier treatment when needed, can reduce the risk of transmission, and can reduce the stigma associated with HIV and HIV treatment. Getting tested yearly can be a part of routine care. If you haven’t already, go get tested as soon as you are able to, just in case.
Today is the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which if you have been in the community long, you understand why this day is so important to us. In 1939, the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York’s Greenwich Village was raided by police. Instead of responding with the routine compliance, the patrons and the growing crowd outside began to fight back. Five days of rioting forever changed the face of the LGBTQIA2S+ life. If you know anyone who fought that day tell them thank you for helping us get to where we are today. We truly appreciate those that have fought for our freedoms as ally’s or as part of the community itself. We love you all so much.
