Daily Rune – Ár

Good Frigg’s Day! Todays rune is Ár from the younger futhark (we like to mix things up on occasion). Here, I think it’s pointing us directly to use the knowledge we’ve gained at the correct time. Timing is everything, and it is better not to be boastful of what we know and sit quietly by the fire, pondering the dancing of the flames, then to share when it’s not called for.

ᛅ ár (“plenty”) means “year of the good harvest.”

Sound: “a” as in “ah”

Meaning: Ar is a rune of good results that come from the application of using our skills and knowledge at the proper time. Like the lush crops of a fall harvest resulting from the fertile soil and well-timed planting season.

Norwegian rune poem **

ᛅ Ár er gumna góðe;

get ek at ǫrr var Fróðe.

Translation **

ᛅ Ar

Plenty is a boon to men;

I say that Frodi was generous.
