Good Friggâs day! Todays rune is Kaun of the Younger Futhark. I take this as a reminder of self inflicted (at times) suffering that brought me to a path of wisdom. Which also brings to mind how Odin sacrificed himself unto himself to be granted the knowledge of the runes. Not that I compare my path to the All-fathers, it just serves as a reminder that sometimes we must suffer to gain the knowledge we seek.
á´ Kaun (“ulcer”). Wisdom through suffering.
Sound: âkâ, âgâ
Meaning: Although this rune stands for a wound, we must understand that it is through the suffering of such a wound that we gain new insight. This rune represents just that, the new insight that we gain from an illness or wound.
Norwegian rune poem **
ᴠKaun er barna bǫlvan;
bǫl gørver nán fǫlvan.
Translation **
á´ Kaun
An ulcer is fatal to children;
death makes a corpse pale.
