Good Tyr’s day friends! Todays rune is Kaun. Though the meanings and rune poems on kaun sound a bit grim (as compared to Kenaz of the elder futhark, which still holds some of those same qualities). I think here it serves as a reminder. A reminder of wisdom gained through past sufferings. In my case, it took me a long time on this journey to get where I’m at right now. A lot of physical, mental, emotional pain, much of which was self inflicted in a way, to get to a point where I could look in the mirror at all these invisible scars and be proud of them. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be who I am today
ᚴ Kaun (“ulcer”). Wisdom trough suffering.
Sound: “k”, “g”
Meaning: Although this rune stands for a wound, we must understand that it is through the suffering of such a wound that we gain new insight. This rune represents just that, the new insight that we gain from an illness or wound.
Norwegian rune poem **
ᚴ Kaun er barna bǫlvan;
bǫl gørver nán fǫlvan.
Translation **
ᚴ Kaun
Ulcer is fatal to children;
death makes a corpse pale.
Icelandic rune poem **
ᚴ Kaun er barna böl
ok bardaga [för]
ok holdfúa hús.
flagella konungr.
Translation **
Kaun – Ulcer
Disease fatal to children
and painful spot
and abode of mortification.
