Daily Rune – Thurisaz

Good Sunna’s day friends! Todays rune is Thurs from the younger futhark. And another shot from my trip. Like the thunder god himself, one of our excursions quite literally required me to dig as deep as possible and find the strength to make it through. Had I not, I’d probably still be sitting in the woods rotting away (don’t ask lol). Brute force was at ay there. And that’s what it took to get me off that last tree stump and finish that journey. In hindsight, I’m very proud of myself for making it through.

ᚦ Thurs (“giant”) rune means “the god Thor, giant”. The rune of brute force.

Sound: “th”, “dh”

Meaning: Like the giant, Thurs contains a lot of power and strength. It was often used in bindrune or magic staves to bring extra power to the staves or bindrune.

Norwegian rune poem **

ᚦ Ãžurs vældr kvinna kvillu;

kátr værðr fár af illu.

Translation **

ᚦ Thurs

Giant causes anguish to women;

misfortune makes few men cheerful.
