Happy Saturday friends!! Todays rune is Yr of the younger futhark. Like it’s counterpart in the Anglo-Saxon runes it is the rune of death or the under-world. Here, and for myself, I believe it signifies a journey there via seiðr or trance work. This could also be on a metaphorical or spiritual level, like an old part of me fading away. I’m not sure why, but it’s like a distant, yet undeniable call that one must answer.
ᦠyr (“yew”) Death rune. The rune of the underworld.
Sound: âzâ, ârâ
Meaning: This rune has the same meaning as the Anglo-Saxon rune Yr. It is the entrance to the underworld and in this form is a death rune.
Norwegian rune poem **
ᦠÃr er vetrgrønstr viða;
vænt er, er brennr, at sviða.
Translation **
ᦠYr
Yew is the greenest of trees in winter;
it is wont to crackle when it burns.
