Daily Runes – Kaun

Blessed Tyr’s Day! Todays rune is Kaun. I really like using the Younger Futhark for the daily pulls. It tends to resonate so well with me. More personal in a way. Anyway, I think the key here is wisdom through suffering. I think a good majority of us on this Heathen path experience this in one way or another. It binds us, makes us whole, and brings us close as a community. We are so much more than just a reconstruction and rebuilding of old ways. We have all had trauma in one way or another. And we bring that compassion to our path. So through study, archeology, UPG, etc. We become whole. We guide each other. Hold one anothers hands in the deepest darkness of what we deal with or have been through. This is why ANYONE, regardless or race, path, sexual identity, and so on CAN walk this path. What better way to walk than with someone that will die at your side?

ᚴ Kaun (“ulcer”). Wisdom through suffering.

Sound: “k”, “g”

Meaning: Although this rune stands for a wound, we must understand that it is through the suffering of such a wound that we gain new insight. This rune represents just that, the new insight that we gain from an illness or wound.

Norwegian rune poem **

ᚴ Kaun er barna bǫlvan;

bǫl gørver nán fǫlvan.

Translation **

ᚴ Kaun

An ulcer is fatal to children;

death makes a corpse pale.
