Good Frigg’s Day! Todays rune is Nauðr. Need, necessity, difficulty all reign here. And it is with challenge on my second day of my journeying with the runes. I have done this before, in other ways. But I’m looking for an even deeper connection. A link if you will, between myself and the sacred knowledge held within symbology and language. As I said, this is going to be quite a trip. It is here I find that need and difficulty as I know this a knother building block to haul up the pile.
ᚾ nauðr (“need”) translates as need, distress, difficulty.
Sound: “n”
Meaning: The rune Naudhr represents not only need but the bondage we may fall into if we let the need for something overtake our lives.
Norwegian rune poem **
ᚾ Nauðr gerer næppa koste;
nøktan kælr í froste.
Translation **
ᚾ Naudhr
Constraint gives scant choice;
a naked man is chilled by the frost.
